SNAP TO MEMORIALIZE LOCAL psychiatrist THROUGH A SPAY AND NEUTER CLINIC SPONSORED IN HIS NAME
Psychiatrist’s legacy of helping others continues.
San Diego, March 16, 2021 – SNAP announced today that it will host an affordable spay and neuter clinic in memory of Howard E. Richmond, MD, who passed away in 2016. The event will take place on Thursday, April 1, 2021, from 7am to 2pm, East Valley Community Center, 2245 E. Valley Parkway, Escondido 92027.
Dr. Richmond practiced his discipline in the coastal community of Encinitas for over 20 years. He was known as a transformational psychiatrist who linked body, mind, and spirit, to guide his patients to live their best lives. He believed that inner peace could be achieved by releasing judgments and hidden emotions. In addition to managing a successful private practice, Dr. Richmond was also an award-winning author. His first novel titled “The Healing Field,” was a first-hand account of the struggles of an anorexic patient that would ultimately impact his own life. He and his wife, Elana Cohen Richmond, co-founded The Healing Field Foundation, an international nonprofit whose mission is to help people discover their own inner peace through Emotional Martial Arts® products and services, developed by Dr. Richmond. The upcoming clinic — the first under SPAY North, is sponsored in part by The Healing Field Foundation. This flagship clinic will recognize the man who cared greatly for his patients and community by combining therapy, humor (Howard performed stand-up comedy as The Comic Shrink), music and guided-meditation along with his psychiatric practice, guiding others to find healing and providing tools they can use throughout their lives. “We are honored to be part of this tribute to Dr. Richmond, who helped so many people in their journeys and is now helping animals in spirit,” said Dorell Sackett, SNAP Executive Director.
SNAP serves San Diego County and its unincorporated areas with high shelter intakes. SPAY North will target Escondido, Fallbrook, Oceanside, and Tribal Nations. It will join SPAY San Diego and SPAY East in providing quality pet care at affordable rates, to improve the lives of pets and reduce the number of animals contributing to the problem of pet overpopulation. Their spay and neuter services are brought directly to these locations via the Neuter Scooter surgical unit.
